The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recovered two high-end vehicles stolen from the Netherlands and illegally shipped into the country.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the vehicles were traced and recovered in Lagos and Akwa Ibom States following a coordinated international investigation.

According to Hundeyin, investigations revealed that the vehicles were stolen from Amsterdam and Midden-Nederland before being shipped through the port of Antwerp in Belgium to Apapa, Lagos, in late 2023.

He explained that following their recovery, the Nigeria Police Force, through INTERPOL NCB Abuja, initiated civil forfeiture proceedings at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

“Upon the conclusion of due legal processes, the court granted a final forfeiture order in favour of the Government of the Netherlands through the vehicles’ insurance company, thereby facilitating their lawful repatriation,” Hundeyin stated.

He added that on Monday, October 20, 2025, the INTERPOL team in Abuja formally handed over the recovered vehicles to representatives of the insurance company and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria, marking the successful completion of the cross-border recovery and restitution effort.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL NCB Abuja operatives for their professionalism and synergy with international partners, particularly INTERPOL NCB The Hague.

Egbetokun noted that the successful recovery and repatriation of the vehicles underscore the Force’s commitment to global law enforcement cooperation and its determination to dismantle criminal networks involved in cross-border vehicle theft and smuggling.

He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to deepen intelligence-led policing and strengthen international partnerships aimed at combating transnational organized crime in all forms.
