The Commissioner of Police in Charge of Western Ports, Mr Kayode Aderanti has held a security meeting with major stakeholder groups in Lagos ports, in what observers described as an attempt to ensure a holistic security network in the ports.
The meeting which held on Wednesday was attended by freight forwarders, the workers unions, road transport operators and port officials.
The Commissioner of Police in Charge of Western Ports, Mr Kayode Aderanti has held a security meeting with major stakeholder groups in Lagos ports, in what observers described as an attempt to ensure a holistic security network in the ports.
The meeting which held on Wednesday was attended by freight forwarders, the workers unions, road transport operators and port officials.
Specifically, those in attendance were drawn from: Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwraders (NAGAFF), Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMARTO), among others.
Sources at the meeting, which was held behind closed door, disclosed that discussions focused on security issues.
The meeting also agreed that stakeholders should begin to address their own failings, in order for a seamless synergy to be formed, for the security of all, and economic well being of Nigeria and those operating within the maritime sector.
The convener of the meeting; Commissioner of Police was reported to have also passionately appealed to operators in the ports to return to their bases, and call for a meeting of their members and sensitize them on the need for everyone to take security, especially in the ports, as a challenge, and be ready to give information on the suspicious items, movement and persons to the Police, for appropriate action.
He also told attendees that, failure to avail the Police of information may deter or delay immediate counter action.
