Automobile traders along the Apapa-Oshodi expressway have appealed to the Minister of works, Mike Onolomemen to expedite action on the delayed re-construction works at the Nile 2/Tin Can port axis of the Apapa-Oshodi expressway, saying that the delay is militating against their businesses.

The dealers who spoke with Auto Port Weekly last week in Lagos stated that the ongoing re-construction work on the ever busy expressway has scared their customers away to other locations of the state.

They called the minister to expedite action so as to ease flow of vehicular traffic.

Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Freedom Park Motor Dealers Association; Mr. Kenneth Nwosu attributed drop in sales of used vehicles at the park to the construction.

He disclosed that a large number of buyers have complained about the construction work, which is being carried out by Julius Berger.

The caretaker said that in the past three years or more, business has been stagnant following the road construction.

According to him, their customers have confirmed to the dealers that, “the construction work along that road which has also contributed to traffic gridlock are some of the reasons for not doing business in that axis and that is the major challenge".

Also reacting, a spokesman of a unit at Berger Market along the same expressway, Ogaji Nelson noted that the Minister of Works needed to come and talk to the contractor because, according to him, "even though the Berger market portion has been fixed, there are other portions of the Mile 2 end that need urgent repairs because most of our client pass through that axis to the market".

Ogaji called on the minister to pay an unscheduled visit to the construction site, adding that it is militating against their business.

Apart from the traffic and road construction constraints by buyers, Ogaji added that,  "the rain has come and it will also slow down the construction work, which in turn will create more hardship for the automobile dealers".

However, he added that the visitation of the minister to the site will help to hasten the construction work.

"The road construction has been on for years and it is not too good for our business ",he said

Also speaking, another dealer; Fred Aloysius pleaded the government to consider the cry of dealer on the policy saying that money of them maybe forced about of the business.
