“He was duly served letter of suspension, and he received it”—— President
The National Headquarters of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) over the weekend suspended Chairman of its PTML Chapter; Chief Goodluck Onunji.
The suspended Chairman, the Secretary, Mr. Orji D. Durkugbo, and Treasurer Mr. A. C. Mbuba were appointed March 27, 2014.
However, our correspondents learnt that the suspended chairman is enmeshed in alleged embezzlement of funds that were given to the chapter by one of the shipping companies.
An insider source revealed to our correspondent that Onunji was sacked due to alleged embezzlement at the chapter level.
He added that the last straw that broke the Camel’s back was the money allegedly given to chapter executives of both NAGAFF and Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs agents (ANLCA) by a shipping company (name withheld).
When confronted, the embattled chairman reportedly denied the allegation that an undisclosed sum was given to him and some of PTML chapter executives.
Our source further alleged that “when confronted by some members in front of an official of the shipping company, the chairman and his executive stood their ground by saying no money was given to them and that was the genesis of the crisis.”
According to him, information about the controversial fund from the shipping company was made known to NAGAFF through chapter executives of ANLCA.
Apart from this, “members of the association accused Onunji of highhandedness and underhand dealings”, he added.
But, while speaking with our correspondent on Saturday, President of NAGAFF, Chief Eugene Nweke denied that the National headquarters is not officially aware of any allegation of embezzlement against the chairman.
He however explained that Onunji was suspended for disobeying a directive of the National Headquarters of NAGAFF.
Meanwhile the embattled Chairman; Mr Goodluck Onunji has debunked reports of the sack notice given to him by the association’s national leadership.
Speaking with our correspondent on Saturday via the telephone about the suspension, he denied knowledge of any such action.
Onunji stated that: “I am not aware of any suspension or sack from NAGAFF management”.
He said that there has been no such notice of sack sent to him by management of NAGAFF, even as he debunked any media reports of him being ousted from office.
However, the NAGAFF President; Chief Eugene Nweke confirmed to our correspondent that Onunji was duly served the letter and he received.
The embattled Chairman has been asked to hand-over all NAGAFF materials in his possession to the Vice Chairman; Mr. George Okafor.
