In a milestone event marking progress in infrastructure and welfare development within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Seme Area Command on Monday commissioned a newly renovated Senior Officers Mess, Gym House, and a state-of-the-art Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Office Complex.

The commissioning ceremony was held at the Seme Command headquarters and was graced by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who was commended for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare of customs personnel across the country.

Speaking at the event, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Seme Area Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo expressed his delight at the successful completion of the projects, describing the day as a historic one that reflects the unity, dedication, and progress of the Command. He noted that the event was not just about unveiling physical infrastructure, but a celebration of the collective spirit of the Nigeria Customs Service.

“These structures stand as symbols of our commitment to the welfare of officers and their families,” Dr. Oramalugo said. “The renovated Officers’ Mess will promote camaraderie and professional bonding, while the COWA Office Complex represents our appreciation for the crucial role Customs officers’ spouses play in fostering family and community development.”

Dr. Oramalugo praised the efforts of officers and men of the Seme Area Command, noting their achievements in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations. He stated that from January to April 2025, the Command generated N2.83 billion in revenue and processed over 184,000 metric tonnes of export goods valued at more than N36 billion. The Command also recorded seizures and arrests in anti-smuggling efforts, with a duty paid value (DPV) exceeding N800 million.

Dr Oramalugo attributed these successes to the professionalism and dedication of the personnel, and to the support of the CGC, whose leadership has driven modernization across the Service.

To the members of COWA, the Customs Area Controller extended special appreciation, describing their tireless work in empowerment and welfare support as vital to the success of the Command. “This office complex will further empower your noble initiatives and strengthen your impact in the border community,” he said.

Dr. Oramalugo also commended the synergy between the NCS and sister security agencies, which he noted has been instrumental in maintaining peace and securing the nation’s borders.

The CAC concluded by encouraging officers to make optimal use of the new facilities to enhance service delivery. “Let the renovated Officers’ Mess be a place to renew our commitment to duty, and let the COWA Office Complex stand as a beacon of empowerment for our families and the communities we serve.”

The ceremony ended with the official unveiling of the facilities by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi symbolizing another step in the NCS’s ongoing commitment to welfare, modernization, and excellence.
