The Seme Command of Nigeria Customs Service has said that plans are still on going to partner with the Customs of neighboring Benin Republic over transfer of vehicles at the joint frontiers.
Auto Port Weekly recalls that the former area controller of the command, Comptroller Saleh Othman had lamented last year that the neighbouring customs were of assistance to the importers in bringing in vehicles through the land borders which according to him, also affected the command’s revenue collection.

Auto Port Weekly recalls that the former area controller of the command, Comptroller Saleh Othman had lamented last year that the neighbouring customs were of assistance to the importers in bringing in vehicles through the land borders which according to him, also affected the command’s revenue collection.
But speaking with Auto Port Weekly in an exclusive chat recently at the command, the incumbent controller of the command, Comptroller Willy Egbudin affirmed that talks between the two customs’ are still on.
He assured that both customs, in no distance time, will work together as a team to address issues affecting vehicular transfer from Benin Republic to Nigeria , noting that there have been tremendous changes as regard smuggling of vehicles through the Seme command’s jurisdiction.
Egbudin appealed to smugglers to desist from smuggling of vehicles and other commodities pointing out it is inimical to the country and the economy.
The Seme Customs command top brass also asserted that men of the command are ever ready to clampdown on importers and their agents who fail to pay the right duty on vehicles at the border station.
