Ship Owners Association To Inaugurate Cadets Training Scheme

Ship owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) has said in Lagos that it was planning to inaugurate the 100 Cadets Training Berth Scheme and organise end- of- the-year get-together for all ship owners.
A statement by the association said the programmes, scheduled to hold this week in Lagos, would attract all ship owners, the business community, top government functionaries and other stakeholders in the maritime industry.
According to the association, the event is aimed at bringing together all ship-owners in the country, notable business leaders and captains of the maritime industry in both the private and public sectors in the economy.
It said that the inauguration would be conducted by the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi.
The statement said that the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru, is expected as the Guest Speaker to speak on the topic: “Benefits of Establishing a National Shipping Fleet for Crude Affreightment’’.
It said that the minister will be there as the Special Guest of Honour and Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State will be the Chief Host.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Investment and Enterprise Council (CWIEC), Mr Oliver Everett, is expected to deliver a goodwill message.
The President of SOAN, Mr Greg Ogbeifun said, “SOAN was conceived to promote the interest of members.’
He said that the association would also provide a forum for dialogue between all ship owners and any other interests on topical issues, policies and practices pertaining to the business of ship ownership and management in the country’’.
Ogbeifun said the essence of the event “is to provide an avenue for key players, policy makers, regulators and other stakeholders in the industry to chart the way forward for the benefits of the industry and the nation at large’’.
