As the rampant cases of sea piracy and kidnapping become worrisome around Bayel¬sa State waterways and communities, some ex-militant leaders, have urged those behind the criminal activ¬ities in the region to shun the act and embrace peace for development to thrive in the region.
The ex-militants, who are under the Third Phase Amnesty Programme, also asked their aggrieved col¬leagues to support Pres¬ident Muhammadu Bu¬hari’s reform programmes for the region.
In a communiqué is¬sued after their emergency meeting in Yenagoa, Bayel¬sa State capital, recently, the former militants ex¬pressed confidence in the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to resolve some knotty issues surrounding the amnesty programme.
The communiqué, which was made available to newsmen after the meeting, was signed by the National Chairman, Third Phase, Ebi John; Vice-Chairman, Ogundere Olarotimi; and Secretary, Gomeromo Henry.
They commended the Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig.-Gen Paul Boro (retd.), for sanitizing the rot left behind by former Coordi¬nator of the programme under Goodluck Jonathan administration.
The ex-militants claimed that the former Coordinator failed to carry some ex-agitators along, noting that the de¬velopment resulted in some of them going back to the creeks to carry out criminalities.
They said, “We urge ev¬ery ex-agitator to key into the development plan of the Federal Government towards the Niger Delta cause. They should shun any form of criminality and inciting others to un¬leash mayhem on the re¬gion.
