Foremost indigenous conglomerate, Sifax Group has bestowed long service awards and showered gifts on 62 of its employees who have worked with the company for between 10 and 15 years and respectively.
At the award ceremony which held over the weekend in Lagos, Group Executive Vice Chairman (GEVC) of Sifax Group; Dr. Taiwo Afolabi applauded the lucky staff for having served the organisation meritoriously and for remaining committed to its vision through thick and thin.
Afolabi who was represented by the Executive Director Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Fola Rogers explained that three of the staff were awarded specially for serving the company for 15 years. He explained that the awardees were selected from across all the subsidiaries of the organisation.
Some of the beneficiaries of the long service award also included top management and executives of the Sifax Group such as: Senior Special Assistance to Dr Afolabi; Barr Ezekiel Ajewole, Executive Director of Finance, Mr. Michael Owope, General Manager, Legal and Claims, Barr Tunji Olusinde, General Manager offdock, Mr. Oliver Omajuwa, General Manager Shipping, Mr. Henry Ayo among others.
He said: "The award is important in two important ways; the first one is that it coincides with 10years anniversary of the concession to ports and cargo. Secondly is that we have so many people being awarded for their meritorious service. We have people cutting across from all the subsidiaries of the company, from the junior staff up to the most senior directors"
"We all know the situation of the Nigerian economy and the recession which is not just Nigeria but at a global level, despite all these, we have made the award to take place"
"We are celebrating dedication, diligence and development in the staff, to achieve all these, definitely they have gone through the thick and thin, especially the people at the operations department, social demands, domestic issues. They have gone through different difficulties in the past ten years"
Afolabi noted that despite the prevailing economic recession, the company tries as much as possible to encourage it's staff.
Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion; Major Henry Ajetunmobi (rtd) noted that the large number of people who qualified for the award yearly shows that despite the short comings of the group, it still has men and women who believe in the vision of Sifax group and they are ready to stay up till ten years.
"Every year, a number of people find themselves qualified for the award. We give recognition and honour to the founder of Sifax Group itself, he realises that of all the investment requirement to establish a company, the most difficult and critical to manage is the human element" he said
He said the essence of having the award annually is to encourage excellence, hard work, and to make the staff put in their best at work.
