Snake Island Free Zone Has Created 6000 Direct Jobs for Oil, Gas Sector—-MD

Chief Executive Chairman of Nigerdock PLC; Mr. Anwar Jarmakani has disclosed that the company, operators of Snake Island Free Zone, has created more than 6000 direct jobs with an investment in excess of USD500million in the last few years in developing a unique and fully integrated oil and gas one stop shop on the Snake Island.
Jarmakani stated this when the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Alli Ibrahim paid an official visit to the island last week.
He said Free Zones represent critical national infrastructure that are pivotal to the economic repositioning of any nation. He added that free zones increase and expand industrial base and improve investments in a country.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government has so far granted 32 Free Zones, among them are; Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone, The Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base, the Snake Island Free Zone, Ibom Free Zones, Calabar Free Zone. Others are Brass LNG Free Zone, Lekki Free Zone and Olokola Free Zone among others.
Briefing the Customs boss, he said the 6000 jobs supports over 100,000 families via direct jobs, even as he stressed that the company has equally trained over six thousand people for the oil and gas industry at its training centre on the snake island.
He said the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone is a catalyst to the economic repositioning of the Nigerian nation because it has so far delivered landmark national projects such as Shell, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Total, Hyhundai and Samsung.
“Free Zones represent critical national infrastructure that are pivotal to the economic repositioning of our great nation and this will deliver Mr. Presidents Change Agenda. Free zones increase and expand industrial base and improve investments in the country. With globalization, professionalism and transparency, free zones are a critical instrument to promoting foreign and domestic investment and improving Nigeria’s global competitiveness”
Jarmakani noted that Federal Government regulatory authorities stationed permanently and operational on the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone include; the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Ports Authority, Immigration, SSS and the Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority.
He said the island boast of the largest shipyard facility in West Africa and the largest and best equipped oil and gas fabrication facilities in Africa.
