Truck drivers and other port users operating at Port Harcourt port have sent a passionate appeal to Rivers State Governor Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi for the rehabilitation of the dilapidated access roads leading into Port Harcourt port.
Some of the truck drivers who spoke with Shipping Position Daily correspondent in Port Harcourt last week said that the bad road is the cause of the gridlocks usually experienced on the road, even as they lament the daily loss of man-hour on the road.

One of the truck drivers; Mr. Lucky Sunday, said that the traffic on the road has become a major source of concern.
They appealed to Governor Amaechi on the NPA road, just as he has done by intervening on other federal roads like; the Port Harcourt – Owerri Road.

Meanwhile, a marine operator in Rivers State Mr. Kennedy Ahaotu in an interview faults the poor performance of terminal operators, PTOL and BUA, for not living up to expectation in addressing the infrastructure decay at Port Harcourt Ports.
He described Amaechi as a pragmatic leader who goes all out to rehabilitate bad roads in Rivers State, without minding whose responsibility it is.
Mr. Ahaotu therefore appealed to Governor Amaechi to intervene by dualising the NPA – Ports Road in Port Harcourt. “You can do this road, and later go for re–imbursement from federal government like you did in the Port Harcourt – Owerri Road”, Mr.  Ahaeotu pleaded with Governor Amaechi.
He observed that the NPA -Ports road is part of Rivers State because majority of the people in the state use the road.
However, our investigations revealed that the NPA Ports Road had been in bad shape causing trailer drivers and other motorists to spend several hours on the road, thereby leading to loss of man hours.
Investigations confirmed that from the axis of Azikiwe Road, opposite Government House gate, the pot holes (bad roads) is one major reason for gridlock especially among trailer drivers and other road users that enter the Port area.
It was also confirmed that the bad road stretches down to the creek road junction leading to Macobar Jetty, where some other companies like Ibeto Cement operates.
Also, residents of the area have added their voice to the list of complains as they recently sent an appeal letter to the state governor calling for the reconstruction and expansion of the road.
