Stakeholders in the freight forwarding sub-sector of the maritime industry have commended the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding of Nigeria (CRFFN) over its plans to relocate its corporate headquarters from Abuja to Lagos.

Stakeholders in the freight forwarding sub-sector of the maritime industry have commended the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding of Nigeria (CRFFN) over its plans to relocate its corporate headquarters from Abuja to Lagos.

The stakeholders said yesterday that the presence of the council in Lagos will bring about effective communication between it and the practitioners, even as they added that the plan to also de-register erring associations from the system is a good development.
According to them, the distance of the CRFFN corporate head office from the major operational base is one of the factors limiting its achievements.
The practitioners also urged the council on the need to conduct election that will usher in a new governing council.
A frontline freight agent; Prince Olu Ologbese said that the move will bring about professionalism in the freight forwarding business.
He urged the council to immediately do the right thing by way of election, adding that with a new governing council in place, the CRFFN will perform better.
The cargo agent added that major operators in the freight forwarding business are based in Lagos, thus the council's move to Lagos is commendable.
Ologbese advocated for proper scrutiny of the five freight forwarding and licensed customs agents associations by the CRFFN pointing out that, "no association is bigger than the council.
He also said that, “in the first instance, the CRFFN was not supposed to be in Abuja because similar thing occur to NPA in the time past and it didn't augur well for the NPA".
On his part, the Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF); Mr. Simeon Nwonu added that the relocation of the council to Lagos ports and its environs will bridge the communication gap between the practitioners and the council.
The image maker of the association added that, "it is imperative for CRFFN to have its head office in Lagos; because Lagos is where the action is", stressing that the council's plan to come back to Lagos is a welcome development.
Also an observer and port activist, Comrade Pius David said that it is the beginning of good things to happen in port operations.
David added that the council’s relocation to Lagos will create an enabling environment for freight forwarding practice to thrive.
