Stakeholders Recommend "Foundations Of Shipping Operations And Transport Management"

A book written by Dr. Obed Ndikom titled: "Foundations of Shipping Operations and Transport Management" has been recommended for maritime practitioners and training institutions by key experts from the maritime sector.

The stakeholders at the launch of the book last week said that the book will assist operators with guidelines in their practice, noting that it will enhance performances relating to maritime studies.

Speaking on the book which was unveiled in the presence of the crème de la crème of the nation’s maritime industry and the academia, a former Executive Secretary of Nigeria Shippers’ Council; Chief Chris Orode advised maritime operators to have a feel of the content of the book.
Orode who chaired the book launch, said the book will serve as a benchmark for students and operators from the maritime sector, adding that shipping demands are highly addressed in the book.

He said " in today's Nigeria national transport development the book will be a major benchmark in academy and maritime practitioners because it is well structured and researched".

On his part, President Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); Prince Olayiwola Shittu said there is need to support the writer of the book through recommendation to members of the association.

"We need to impact the knowledge of this book to our members and our library will not run dry of this book: “ Foundations of Shipping Operations and Transport Management" , he said.

He further stressed that the author of the book deserves stakeholders’ commendation because of his consistent determination to enhance the Nigerian transport industry through his scholarly works.

"Dr Ndikom has continued to show that he is committed to his calling. "

"The calling of an Academician is to impart knowledge and contribute to the growth of the society, through teaching and research and this is what Dr Ndikom has been doing and he has further demonstrated this by authoring yet another book."

"In a society where a lot of people pursue non-value-adding endeavours; happily, the Academia stands out as the bastion of hope for sustainability of the ideals of our nation and the growth of the economy."

" I dare say that this book – Foundation of Shipping Operations and Transport Management is a further attestation of the importance of education and consummation of the synergy between the transport industry and the ivory tower."

"While it is not true that there is no manpower, it is the quality of available manpower that is worrisome to many stakeholders."

According to him, the model that is currently being adopted by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria in the quest to provide hands-on training for practicing freight forwarders , "and also bring-up a new generation of young educated practitioners is worthy of emulation and commendation."

He said that the CRFFN is investing hugely in manpower development, which in turn will benefit the transport sector ultimately.

"My association; the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents is also in the forefront of ensuring continuous manpower development for its members. In fact, it is a compulsory in-house policy of our association".

"May I at this point also challenge the Academia to bring their gowns to town."

" The transport sector is lucky to have a large array of accomplished members of the academic community and I think it is high time they synergized with the transport sector, in the larger interest of the nation."

Also speaking at the exercise, Rector, Certified Institute of Shipping (CIS); Reverend Alex Okwuashi noted that apart from students and other stakeholders, there is need for maritime operators to read the book for broader knowledge of the industry.
