Tanker Drivers Lauds Integrated Oil, Others

Petroleum tanker drivers under the aegis of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) have commended the management of Integrated Oil and Gas Limited for what they explained as the support and cooperation which they enjoy in the company.

The group, at its maiden meeting in 2010 which held recently in Lagos expressed appreciation to Integrated Oil and Gas for its unflinching support as well as working with them in all sincerity, even as the drivers stressed that despite scarcity which is biting hard on the country and which has greatly limited the unions strength, Integrated Oil and Gas has rendered support in making the tanker drivers to succeed in their activities.

In a letter which was made available to Shipping Position Weekly and signed by the executives of the union, the drivers appealed to the organization and their zonal leaders  to intervene on the recurrent traffic congestion which is usually caused by some oil peddlers on the road. The letter read in part: “we are asking for help and support from the zonal executive to help us combat the menace of touts and oil peddlers under the bridge who are causing a lot of traffic congestion for vehicles and trucks that ply through Integrated”.

In the same vein, the petroleum tanker drivers appreciated the management of another downstream operator; Dee Jones energy limited for its contribution towards the union and also putting a smile on the faces of stakeholders with its efforts to clear the access road leading to the depot which is also surrounded by other depots like Rahamanniya and Obat oil.

While outlining its challenges in terms of logistics, the union stressed that one of the major problems militating against their smooth operations is the state of the roads, saying that since the government has abandoned maintenance of the roads in terms they9drivers) are forced to do it most of the time.

“Road  maintenance has been a major problem, especially the road through Mosimi Sagamu, by now we only apply self help by maintaining the road by our self in order to allow for smooth running of our trucks, we so much believe in cost management and with good road we believe we can achieve it” they stated.
The group also appealed to its members especially those at Apapa depot saying that they need to shun all manners of vandalisation of pipelines as most tankers caught at scenes of vandalisations are always from the Apapa depots.
