In line with the directive of Customs Comptroller General, Col. Hameed Ali Ibrahim, the Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has introduced sports sessions for its officers every Thursday.
The Customs CG while addressing journalists in Lagos during his stakeholders visit and‎ familiarization tour promised to bring back the good old days of sports promotion among officers so as to keep them fit and trimmed.
Public Relations Officer of Tin Can Command, Mr. Chris Osunkwo has confirmed to Shipping ‎Position Daily exclusively on Monday that the command has acquired sports gadgets and it has introduced exercises every Thursday.
‎He said the session features games such as basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis among others.
Osunkwo also said that the car park at‎ the Tin Can CPC, as well as Ashaye Scanning Site inside the terminal is used for the sports.
‎"In line with headquarters directives, we have embraced sports, every Thursday starting by 4.30pm we do a whole lot of exercises ranging from basketball, volley ball, table tennis, football and so on"
"The officers are engaged so that they can keep in shape and reduce the pot bellies"
"It came as a headquarters directive, initially we were doing it from 2.30pm to 4.30pm but the stakeholders complained that it was affecting work, so they had to shift the time to 4.30pm"
"We even struggle our equipment with agents, they don't allow us to use it" he said.
Osunkwo said that the Tin Can Command is so far the only command that has complied with the resuscitation of sports activities among officers in line with the CGC's directive.
