Even at the insinuation of its being shut down by the Lagos State Government, operators at the Acorn Petroleum Plc. depot around Coconut bust stop axis of Apapa-Oshodi expressway have lamented the unusual lull in business activities at the depot due to its lack of product since December 2012.

Even at the insinuation of its being shut down by the Lagos State Government, operators at the Acorn Petroleum Plc. depot around Coconut bust stop axis of Apapa-Oshodi expressway have lamented the unusual lull in business activities at the depot due to its lack of product since December 2012.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, a member of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) unit of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) at the depot, Mr. Nurudeen Adewale said that the depot had not been given any product allocation since December last year.
He lamented that the use of certain depots to import petroleum products which is usually done by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have not had any effect on the depot, even as he complained that members of the union are now suffering as a result of lack of jobs.
Adewale also said that due to the inactivity at the tank farm, many of their clients have been lost to neighbouring depot as a result of the lull and that it might be difficult to win back their trust.
Explaining the ordeal, he said “the way we operate now is that, our customers call on us to load product for them from other depot, the lack of job has forced some of our members to go and beg for jobs from other depots, we as a union executive cannot do that, it will bring stain on us, but we still we need to get money to take care of our families”.
He however expressed hope that the depot might get busy this month because the management of the company has assured that it is expecting premium motor spirit on 15th of June 2013.
