A merchant vessel moored at the YUZHNY Port in the Odessa region was hit by a Russian ballistic missile on 6 October. Infrared footage captured by a UAV depicting the incident has been released by Russian state media.
The merchant vessel was hit by an Iskander-M type short-range ballistic missile while it was moored at the Yuzhny port. The name of the targeted vessel has not been released.
However, the reporting of the event by the Russian Ministry of Defense states that the vessel was carrying military aid sent by European countries to Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense further claims that the vessel was hit by the missile at the time of unloading the ammunition, resulting in detonation and a secondary explosion.
This attack is the third such attack by Russia on a merchant vessel within the period of a month and has raised concerns regarding the safety of merchant vessels involved in maritime trade in the region amidst growing hostilities.
