- Drone attack hits Lider Bordo Mavi off Russia, injuring five crew
The Cameroon-flagged Ro-Ro/containership Lider Bordo Mavi was attacked off the coast of Tuapse, Russia, on 26 August with five crew members reportedly injured.
According to Turkish media reports, Lider Bordo Mavi departed Samsun Port, Turkey, on 25 August carrying vegetables en route to Tuapse when it was struck by three drones. The attack triggered a fire aboard the vessel, injuring five crewmembers.
There has been no detailed information regarding the condition of the injured or the extent of the damage to the ship.
Lider Bordo Mavi is a 1985-built vessel that is operated by the Trabzon-based shipping company Lider Gida. The vessel is among the Lider fleet operating between Turkey and Russia. The vessel measures 121.48 meters in length, 21 meters in width and has a carrying capacity of 4,818 tonnes.

A crude oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on 25 August causing damage and a fire that was extinguished by the crew.
According to United Kingdom Trade Operations (UKMTO), the vessel was struck by an unknown projectile at around 17:30 UTC near Khasab, Oman. The vessel was sailing eastbound through the strait when it was hit, causing a small hole just above the waterline. All crew members were reported safe, with no environmental pollution reported.
The Joint Maritime Information Centre identified the vessel as Kuwait-flagged tanker Al Salam II. The vessel is 2007-built and measures 228 meters in length and 32.25 meters in width.
The incident came a day after the Liberian-flagged crude oil tanker Metro Venetian was struck by a projectile off Oman on August 24, suffering engine-room damage and losing propulsion before being safely towed to Fujairah.
- MSC halts Novorossiysk operations after drone attack on containership
MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, has suspended new bookings to and from Norvorossiysk Port in Black Sea after one of its vessels was struck by a drone.
According to Bloomberg News, which reviewed the MSC customer advisory, the suspension followed after the Panama-flagged containership MSC Ulsan III was attacked while sailing laden from Norvorossiysk en route to Tekirdağ, Turkey, scheduled to arrive by 27 August.
MSC has neither disclosed when the attack occurred nor identified who was responsible. The extent of damage to the containership and condition of the crew also remained unclear. The company reported that it will operate from other Russian ports, including St. Petersburg.
MSC Ulsan III is a 2004-built containership that measures 215.08 meters in length, 29.8 meters in width and has a gross tonnage of 27,915.
- Fire breaks out aboard bulk carrier docked in Cardiff, United Kingdom
A fire broke out aboard the bulk carrier Federal Welland, which was carrying scrap metal and moored at Queen Alexandra Dock in Cardiff, United Kingdom. The crew of the vessel are reported to be safe, and the fire is reported not to pose an immediate threat to the public.
The incident occurred on 25 August while the vessel was docked. The fire ignited the approximately 20,000-tonne scrap metal cargo on board. It produced huge plumes of smoke that affected areas including Cardiff Bay and Penarth, and triggered a major response from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Responders are using boats, drones and firefighting tugs to combat the blaze. The tug VB Yorkshireman has been reported to be using its water cannon against the fire.
Public Health Wales has advised residents and businesses in the affected areas to keep windows and doors closed until the fire is extinguished and the smoke clears. Authorities have also asked the public not to fly drones above the site, as this can interfere with firefighting and aerial operations.
The Federal Welland is a Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier built in 2000. The vessel has a length of 200 metres, a beam of 23.5 metres and a gross tonnage of 20,659.
