The Ports Authority Police (Western) Command has announced the activation of comprehensive security measures across major ports and waterways to ensure safety and uninterrupted operations during the Yuletide season.

According to an official statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Isaac Hundeyin, noted that the enhanced measures, approved in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja, are aimed at safeguarding port users, maritime stakeholders and national economic assets throughout the festive period.

According to the Command, the security coverage spans Apapa Port, Tin Can Island Port, Lekki Deep-Sea Port, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Ikorodu Lighter Terminal, as well as the marine patrol axis extending up to 12 nautical miles.

As part of the arrangements, the Ports Authority Police disclosed that round-the-clock land and water patrols have been intensified to deter criminal activities and ensure the protection of vessels, cargo and critical port infrastructure.

The Command also said collaboration has been strengthened with sister security agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies and Port Facility Security Officers to enable swift, real-time response to security concerns during the festive rush.

Additional personnel have been deployed to strategic locations expected to witness increased human and vehicular traffic, while intelligence gathering and surveillance operations have been enhanced to proactively identify and neutralise potential threats within the port environment.

The Commissioner of Police urged port users and stakeholders to remain vigilant, comply with all security guidelines and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest Port Police Division or Marine Unit.

The Ports Authority Police (Western) Command extended Yuletide greetings to Nigerians at home and abroad, assuring stakeholders of its continued commitment to maintaining safety, order and seamless maritime operations throughout the festive season and beyond.
