A threatened strike by stevedores in Brazil has been postponed after the national government agreed to enter talks to address their concerns.
Inchcape Shipping Services Brazil (ISS Brazil), which has been monitoring the situation, confirmed that it had received notification from the Union of Shipping Companies that the stevedores’ strike had been “temporarily cancelled, due to the government agreeing to discuss their issues”.

Should these talks fail to reach a satisfactory conclusion, a new date for strike action by stevedores has been agreed for Friday, 27 June at 10.00, local time. ISS said it would continue to monitor events on behalf of customers and stakeholders and post any updates received.
The averted “indefinite” strike was set to begin on Tuesday (10 June) and was expected to affect stevedore operations in all ports across Brazil and to cause considerable delays with cargo operations.
A previous strike planned by Brazil’s National Federation of Stevedores at the end of May over hiring and pension practices was scrapped at the last minute in favour of further negotiations with Ministers.
