The   World Maritime     University (WMU)  is introducing two new specializations within the MSc in Maritime Affairs in Malmö. They are: Maritime Energy Management and Ocean Sustainability, Governance and Management.

The   World Maritime     University (WMU)  is introducing two new specializations within the MSc in Maritime Affairs in Malmö. They are: Maritime Energy Management and Ocean Sustainability, Governance and Management.
According to a statement issued last week by the WMU, these specializations will begin in September 2016, and are part of the University’ response to the new agenda for the coming years that was approved by the IMO Council in June 2015, on the basis of the IMO Secretary-General’s Study on the Sustainability of WMU.
“These two new specializations will enable current and future maritime and ocean leaders to have the required education, skills and expertise for today and for the future,” said Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President.
 “They will be a key component of WMU’s response to Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which builds on the UN’s Millennium Development Goals. Goal 14 concerns the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and maritime resources for sustainable development. “These two new specializations expand WMU’s offerings, providing advanced knowledge and critical skills necessary for decision-makers in governments, industry and for other relevant stakeholders to enable them to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals and Targets in their countries, through business operations and in all aspects of their professional activities,” said Dr Doumbia-Henry.
Maritime Energy Management is designed for professionals from the energy and environmental sectors, and offers a comprehensive understanding of different aspects of maritime energy management, from ships to maritime onshore facilities. It teaches the skills and provides the expertise needed to achieve a sustainable and energy efficient maritime industry.
Ocean Sustainability, Governance and Management is also designed for all those concerned with the economic, social and environmental health and sustainability of coastal and ocean environments. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected global economic-social-environmental coastal and ocean system, within the broader ocean context, and an understanding of the complex UN system for ocean governance.
