Japanese investor Mitsui has divested its entire stake in two container terminal operators in China. Mitsui owned a 1 percent stake in HIT Investments in Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, and a 2 percent stake in Yantian International Container Terminals in neighboring Shenzhen, through its wholly owned Hong Kong subsidiary. Mitsui sold the stakes in HIT Investments and YICT to Hutchison Whampoa subsidiary Hutchison Port Holdings, the majority shareholder of both container terminal operators, the Tokyo-based company said. Mitsui did not disclose the transaction value. "Upon a request of HPH to purchase Mitsui's shares, Mitsui decided on this divesture in consideration of its corporate strategy to optimize its business portfolio," the Japanese firm said in a statement. Mitsui confirmed its policy of continuing to develop a strong relationship with Hutchison Whampoa.
