The police in Bayelsa said on Monday in Yenagoa that they had intensified patrol of the rivers and creeks in the state.
The police spokesman in the state, Mr Fidelis Odunna, , said that the decision to intensify patrol was to curb piracy in the state.
According to him, the police have also launched a manhunt for the suspected pirates, who ambushed a speed boat last week in one of the rivers.
He said that more security personnel had been deployed to the rivers and creeks of the state to check piracy.

Odunna said that the police had yet to arrest the unknown gunmen, who attacked the speed boat and killed the staff of an oil company in the state.
He also said that investigations were going on to track down anybody, who might be involved in criminal activities on the water ways.
