Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo, has inaugurated a gun boat, jetty and marine base in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.
Obaseki who performed the inauguration, assured the people of Ologbo that the marine base would help to reduce criminality in water ways and illegal logging of wood in the state forest reserves.
According to him, “security is the major challenge facing Nigeria, as Edo also has its own peculiar security challenges, apart from the farmers/herders clashes which are common not only to Edo but across the country.
“We also have militancy and banditry in our water ways, we have heard terrible incidents of people coming into our communities, into our forest through our water ways carrying out illegal logging of our trees in our forest of over 500 years.
“They will sell the logs to buy more arms and come to our communities to attack us. As a government, we have decided to build this marine facilities, gunboat that we are commissioning today,” he said.

Earlier, the Enogie of Ologbo community, Prince Owenvbiugie Akenzua, thanked the governor for his gesture of establishing Ologbo Jetty gunboat and marine base, saying that the project will go a long way to check the security challenges facing the people.
The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, said the party is touching lives in every community in Edo, including the Riverine communities.
Ayu said that the administration of Obaseki will make sure our people live a secured lives from criminality across the state.
