In connection with last week’s €157 million narcotics seizure off the Cork Coast, four individuals have made court appearances and have been appropriately charged.
Once the Army Ranger Wing boarded the ship MV Matthew on last Tuesday, more than 2200 kg of cocaine was found.
Four individuals charged with the seizure were brought in on 3 October, and there was a significant Garda presence outside the Mallow District Court.
Mykhailo Gavryk, 30, from Ukraine, Cumali Ozgen, 48, Vitali Vlasoi, 31, from Ukraine, and Saeid Hassani, 37, from Iran, all of whom had addresses outside the country, were hauled before the court.
They are accused of conspiring to have cocaine worth over €13,000 in their possession and to supply it.
Each of the men followed proceedings with an interpreter.
Joe Cuddigan, the defence attorney for Vitali Vlasoi, declared that he would submit a request to board the MV Matthew vessel.
Don Ryan, the defence attorney for Saeid Hassani, informed the court that he would also be submitting an application to board the ship.
Judge Colm Roberts remanded the four men in custody to show up before the court once again via video meeting last Tuesday since the District Court is not permitted to award bail in such a matter.
