The National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) has voiced its deep sorrow over the recent fire incident on Onne Road IN Rivers state. This is even as it issued a call to the Federal Government to urgently enhance the safety of the highly-busy road, following a devastating fire that caused significant property loss and impacted the daily operations of freight forwarders on this critical port access route.
An official statement signed by the National Secretary of the association, Mr Festus Ukwu, noted that the calamity which occurred a few days ago, has caused significant distress in the community, particularly impacting the daily operations of freight forwarders who use this critical port access road.
Expressing solidarity with those affected, the National Executive Committee (NECOM) of the association highlighted the profound impact of the incident on individuals who have suffered losses.
The association however called upon the Federal Government to take action to ensure safety on the road, urging for immediate improvements to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Council stressed the importance of making the road more user-friendly to avert further tragedies, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced safety measures.
“The executives and entire members of National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents wish to express our deepest pain over the Onne road fire incident few days ago which inflicted great destruction on the users of that axis. It’s worthy to note that the road is a port access road and accommodates our brother freight Forwarders every day to executes their jobs.
“The Council therefore sympathies with all those who may be unfortunate to have been involved by losing any of their properties to the inferno. We pray God to bless them and grant them quick recovery from the incident. Subsequently we call on the Federal government to look into the road and make it friendly for all users to avoid a reoccurrence of this ugly incident again” the statement read.
