In demonstration of its commitment to education and community development, the Tincan Island Container Terminal (TICT), located in Apapa, Lagos, has revitalized Randle Secondary School through a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade. This initiative aligns with the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) focus on enhancing educational standards in Nigeria.
The project, carried out in conjunction with Africa Global Logistics’ annual “Day of Solidarity” celebration, saw TICT undertake major renovations at the school. These include the modernization of the school’s information and communication technology (ICT) room, which has been equipped with 10 state-of-the-art computers, two uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units, a printer, and other critical IT equipment. Additionally, 14 washrooms for both staff and students were fully renovated, ensuring a cleaner and more comfortable environment.
Speaking on the initiative, Etienne Rocher, Country Managing Director of Africa Global Logistics, noted that this year’s Solidarity Day theme—Education—drove the project’s focus on infrastructure upgrades at Randle Secondary School. “To make an impactful donation, we conducted a first-hand evaluation of different high schools in Apapa. We envisioned the significant impact our CSR activity would have on the students and staff of Randle Senior Secondary School through the upgrade of the school’s infrastructure. Students at Randle Secondary School will now have quality exposure to the fundamentals of ICT and the opportunity to develop their computer skills,” he said.
The project’s scope extended beyond education, as TICT also contributed to improving the school’s waste management system by providing eight new bins. This measure is aimed at ensuring a clean and healthy learning environment for the students.
The school’s principal, Mr. Akinboyowa Peter, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the support, noting its transformative impact on the school community. Echoing this sentiment, Honourable Tosan Wiltshire, a representative of the Apapa Local Government, lauded TICT for its dedication to fostering a conducive learning atmosphere.
“On behalf of the Chairman of Apapa LG, I would like to thank TICT for the wonderful execution of this project. We urge other business organizations to emulate this kind of gesture to make learning interesting for our students in Apapa. We remain committed to ensuring timely waste disposal to maintain a clean and healthy learning environment,” Wiltshire stated.
