The Oyo/Osun Customs Area Command says it generated over N7.8 billion revenue and seized contraband goods with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N202 million in January.
The Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, made the disclosure on Friday in Ibadan while briefing newsmen on the Command’s scorecard for 2024 as well as for January 2025.
Oramalugo said the feat was achieved inspite of the prevailing economic situation and the implementation of various fiscal policies aimed at boosting the economy.
He listed the seizures to include 170 bags of 50kg foreign rice, 1,667 used tyres, 32 bales of used clothes, two sacks of used shoes and 40 kegs of 25 litres of Premium Motor Spirit.
Oramalugo described the Command’s revenue collection performance in 2024 as exceptional and respectable.
“In 2024 the Command generated N82.2 billion for the Federal Government.
” The amount collected is 15.3 per cent higher than the N71.2 billion collected in 2023.
“The total revenue received in 2024 is the largest since inception of the Command,” he said.
Oramalugo also said that the Command made tremendous progress in countering unlawful activities that endangered Nigeria’s security and impeded the growth of local indudtry.
He said that seizures and interceptions of contraband goods in 2024 stood at N5.3 billion which was massive when compared to the N451.4 million DPV in 2023.
The Command, he added, intercepted and seized smuggled goods with a Duty Paid Value of N202 million between Dec. 20, 2024 and Jan. 31.
“As we carried out these anti-smuggling operations, we remained focused on protecting the interests of local manufacturers and industries.
“Our efforts ensured that cheaper, substandard and harmful goods were kept out of our markets, thereby giving local producers an opportunity to thrive and ensuring the health and safety of citizens,” Oramalugo said.
He said that the interception and seizures had drastically reduced smuggling of fake drugs and other contraband goods in the Command’s area of coverage.
Oramalugo, who said he had been deployed to Seme Command, appreciated the personnel for their support, adding that the achievement would not have been possible without them.
He thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi and his management team for their support and for giving him higher responsibilities.
