The Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Mr Lanre Adedoyin, has applauded the transformation of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) under the leadership of Dr Kayode Opeifa.

Adedoyin gave the commendation during a tour of  NRC facilities at its headquarters in Ebute Meta, Lagos, by a team from Rotary Club.

He said the club was happy to observe that the NRC had recorded strong revitalisation due to reforms being made by the Opeifa administration.

This is according to a statement signed by Mr Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, on Friday in Lagos.

Unyimadu said that the tour was facilitated by the President of the Rotary Club of Lagos Island, Mr Lekan Dupeye.

Among areas toured are the Running Shed of the Nigerian Railway and the Railway Technical Institute, where the team was received by the Principal, Mr Tukur Majus.

The team was briefed on the institute’s vision, training programme and modern skill development offerings in electrical photovoltaic, carpentry, machine operations, welding, automobile mechanics, and fashion.

Earlier, Dupeye thanked NRC for warm reception, and commended the strides made in revamping the railway sector.

He emphasised Rotary Club’s interest in vocational training for national development, and proposed establishment of a Rotary hub within NRC premises.

“We specially appeal for support for the upcoming Rotary District Conference in Abeokuta,” he added.

Responding, Opeifa, a past President of the Rotary Club of Agege, thanked the visitors for considering NRC a partner.

He expressed NRC’s openness to collaboration, and affirmed its support for initiatives by the club.

He highlighted key aspects of NRC’s ongoing transformation under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to include reconnecting major routes such as Lagos–Kano and Port Harcourt–Maiduguri.

Opeifa also said that the Federal Government was expanding freight and cargo services to boost trade and ease logistics.

He added that the government was creating track access for willing states to enable full utilisation of NRC’s fixed infrastructure.

“If railway dies, Nigeria’s economy will grind to zero.

“That is why we are optimising what we have and embracing collaborations that drive growth,” he said.
