The Strait of Hormuz has been reopened to commercial shipping, with passages coordinated in advance with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to Reuters.
The reopening follows a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah. The strait had been effectively closed to all commercial traffic since late February amid the US-Iran war. Shipping traffic in the area dropped significantly due to attacks, mines, and other threats.
Iranian Foreign Minister; Abbas Araqchi stated that the strait would remain open for the duration of the ceasefire. Iranian officials added that passage would be restricted to lanes deemed safe by Iran, with navigation coordinated by Iranian authorities after obtaining authorization from the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization and the IRGC.
All commercial vessels including US-registered vessels will be allowed to pass, provided they are not military vessels.
The shipping industry and related associations are closely monitoring the situation as it develops.
