The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, (CRFFN), is set to make history this week as it gets set to have an official register of its first set of registered freight forwarders.
Consideration, approval and subsequent gazetting of the Register of Freight Forwarders will climax the council’s 2010 annual general meeting which holds between Tuesday and Thursday in Abuja.
Shipping Position Weekly recalls that the Council had earlier embarked on nationwide registration of freight forwarders during which about 5,000 individuals and corporate freight forwarders were registered. This is in addition to registering four freight forwarding associations.
Our correspondent confirmed last week that this week’s meeting is expected to be attended by council members from all over the country.
Registrar of the Council, Sir Mike Jukwe told our correspondent on telephone last weekend that this week’s meeting is very important as according to him, “the CRFFN is making history. For the first time, Nigeria will have a list of registered freight forwarders who can add the prefix ‘RFF’ to their names and who are entitled to all the rights and privileges that comes with being a professional”.
He added that, apart from the register of freight forwarders, the council meeting will also focus on the accreditation of associations of freight forwarders, look into the audited accounts of the Council for the year ended 31st December, 2009 and also discuss the Council’s Staff Manual and Corporate Handbook.
The meeting will also deliberate on arrangements for the forthcoming
First National Conference of Freight Forwarders, he added, even as he pointed out that after gazetting the names of registered freight forwarders, “full implementation of our Act will commence and this also marks the commencement of compliance with the provisions of the Act”.
