“The cost of doing business right now is high because at the moment, there is no regulatory agency that has the power to independently regulate commercial activities,’’ he said.
He said that the absence of a commercial regulator had created room for private sector monopoly.
“The issue of a port regulator requires an urgent attention,’’ he said.
Nweke said that he was sure that by 2013, every freight forwarder with the desire to do business at the ports would have been duly registered.
“Our efforts toward sanitising the industry are ongoing. One might not feel the impact right now but so far 6,800 stakeholders have registered and by 2013, the industry would have been properly sanitised,’’ he said.
“Many departments have been put in place as mechanisms to evolve very functional freight forwarding practice in Nigeria,’’ he said.
