The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on Thursday said the role of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as inland revenue collection agent was vital in the nation’s economic growth.
Oba Olakulehin said this while receiving the Customs Area Controller for Oyo/Osun Area Command, Dr Ben Oramalugo, at the Oke Aremo palace in Ibadan.
Olubadan, who spoke through the Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Amidu Ajibade, noted that Nigeria as a nation seeking economic recovery could not do without NCS’s revenue collection capacity.
He noted that NCS had over the years and more recently enhanced the collection of revenue and improved prevention and suppression of smuggling in the nation.
“After the money being generated through oil, the next in order is the revenue coming from the NCS.
“That is the reason our country will continue to find the Customs Service indispensable,” Olubadan said.
Earlier, Oramalugo had said he was in the palace to solicit the support of the Olubadan towards effective service delivery and to seek royal blessings.
The Customs Area Controller who maintained that revenue generation was one of the functions of the NCS said a large percentage of its generated revenue come from Ibadan.
He declared that Ibadan was too big to ignore in the area of revenue generation.
