Fairly-used automobile dealers in Lagos State have called on online car traders to put in place measures to address internet fraud, saying that it is affecting sale of used cars nationwide.
Specifically the dealers are appealing to the online dealers in Nigeria, which include: Cheki.com and Carmudi.com.ng, to also partner with the Nigeria Customs Service and other relevant enforcement agencies to put a stop to the internet fraud in sales of vehicles.
According to them, there is need for stakeholders to put an end to the internet fraud which has robbed- off negatively on car dealership in Nigeria.
The dealers who spoke to Auto Port Weekly in Lagos expressed dissatisfaction at the emergence of fake sites for vehicle sales.
Speaking on the need to check mate internet fraud on vehicle sales, President General, Berger Dealers Association of Nigeria; Chief Metchie Nnadiekwe told Auto Port Weekly, in an interview that plans are on-going to with the Nigeria Customs Service and the online trade merchants on the possibility of partnering to put a stop to the fraudulent practice.
He stressed that the marriage between the online dealers namely Cheki.com and Carmudi.com.ng have recorded some level of awareness about the market, but lamented that internet fraud has become alarming, hence there is need to nip it in the bud.
"We are working hand in hand with people like Cheki and Carmudi to address the issues surrounding online fraud on vehicle sales, because we are Nigerians and we are affected as well", he told our correspondent.
