Expert Urges Local Manufactures To Ensure Quality Brands

A transport expert and the Acting National Executive Director of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Mr. Paul Ndibe, has urged Nigerian automobile manufacturers to ensure that their products have quality brands to enable them compete with other manufacturers in other parts of the world.

Mr. Ndibe who disclosed this recently in a chat with Shipping Position Daily, also said that for the country to start talking about implementing the bills for home made vehicles, there is need for effectiveness of the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON).

“They would have based their proposals on certain calculations; one in terms of boosting home made vehicles having a boom on our local manufactures. But the most important thing is brand, having a good brand; once we have that brand certainly it will sell. And once we have that brand, quality will be there. Then having our own automobile plant then we will talk about quality standard. If only the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) will come put some policies, that is additional advantage. Because if you have framework in place without proper monitoring by SON to ensure quality, then people will be discouraged”

He also applauded the move by the Senate for the passage of the automobile policy bill, saying that it is a move in the right direction.

“For me, the automobile policy bill is a step in the right direction because over time our local industry needs the bill but more of the work is expected to be done by Son because quality must be installed”
