Drewry: World Container Index Up By 1.1%

The composite index increased 1.1% this week likewise, 0.8% up as compared with same period of 2018.

The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US $1511/40ft container, which is $38 higher than the five-year average of $ 1473/40ft container.

Drewry’s composite World Container Index (WCI) increased 1.1% or $14.71 to reach $1,393.70 per 40ft container. Freight rates on Shanghai-New York grew $54 to reach $2717 per 40ft box. Rates on Shanghai-Rotterdam inched up by $29 and stood at $1493 per feu. Conversely, freight rates from New York-Rotterdam plummeted by $19 to $516 per 40ft container. Drewry expects that the rates will remain stable next week.
