As far as I am concerned CRFFN has failed completely, this was not the CRFFN we saw and entered, the spirit is no longer there and they are a failure as of today, right from the registrar, Mike Jukwe and all the other officers have failed, the register they are parading as far as I am concerned is a failure, they must re-register freight forwarders because they made a lot of mistakes, people that are not supposed to be in the Council are there now, they gathered people from here and there and registered them, some of them are not even freight forwarders or license customs agents, they have to change that register because they cannot get authentic list of members from that register. Are you aware that some people paid and up till now they cannot get their identity cards, people are crying after the money they have paid to CRFFN, there is no way they can give us accurate number of our members as of today.

Freight forwarding is an industry that people come in everyday, just like in the Nigerian Bar Association where they continue to have lawyers on yearly basis, likewise the CRFFN will not be different, they have to register members. Concerning the associations, as some are coming, some are leaving the industry, so I believe new members have to be registered, but the associations so far registered are enough for now, they have registered two standard associations, we have NAGAFF that represents all the freight forwarders and ANLCA for licensed agents, so any other body trying to come up should go under NAGAFF or ANLCA.

Under normal circumstances, registration does not mean qualification, if it is by registration like our sister association NAGAFF is using individual registration with CRFFN as a criteria to admit them into the association, it was suppose to be the other way round, they must have been a bonafide member of an association before being admitted. If the updating of the CRFFN register is by this means, then it will be flooded with errors. There must be a verification to see is actually these people are eligible to be admitted into the membership of the CRFFN, the old register as it is known, going by the inability of the CRFFN will be the best referral point to start with. In my own association, it is those that are working under our corporate organizations that are registered on the platform of CRFFN, there must be a defined mode of updating the register or else, we go back to the one that has been authenticated and closed.
Rev. Emmanuel Agubanze (NAGAFF, Lillypond Chair)
You must understand that in an organization like the CRFFN, room is made for people who are coming afresh, some people are still registering, when we did our election in NAGAFF, many people were registered into the CRFFN, and you should expect that such people should be included in the register of freight forwarders. Again, there is this law in CRFFN; for instance, if we that were registered in 2010 but the register came out in 2012 because of the delay, if you discover that some people in the existing register have not paid their annual subscription to CRFFN for 2013, such people should be de-registered. So in CRFFN, as some are dropping, some others are coming in, so the register from time to time should be upgraded, it is not something that should remain stagnant, many people are registering as I speak with you, and you should expect that such peoples' names should come out in the next gazette as members of CRFFN, while those already on the register but are not paying their annual subscription fees should be de-registered.

I think for some associations to collect money from those who don't even have enough to take care of themselves for the purpose to register with CRFFN alone shows that they are broke. Not only that, they are bankrupt. How can an association collect money from thousands of Nigerian youths for the sake of an election, it is absurd and I think it’s unfair.

The truth of the matter is that the formal or proposed update register may likely make any difference because the platform which the council was created has been defiled, we now have a council that have systematically turned itself into a ministry under the ministry of Transport, and to us in the academia in the industry, we see them as an affirmation of what the council should be. So whether or not they update or still maintain the former register for the sake of the election for the governing council seat of CRFFN or to promoted the election, its immaterial.
Deacon Kalu Dike (NAGAFF Tin Can)
I think what the CRFFN is doing for now is the best because the Council’s Act states that there should be training and re-training of new entries or members and not for those that have been there for long. Students and school leavers are actually the people that are needed at this point in time therefore what is ongoing at the moment to me is the best. The last council elections failed because it was one-sided, but this innovation by Jukwe the registrar of the council must be lauded.

Why is it that the CRFFN registration or accreditation is taking place at the time when election into the governing council is near? I think it is just a gimmick to garner more votes for a particular group or individual. I think the upgrade of the register of council member is good, but the timing is what I am worried about.
