The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has appointed 20 people as members of task forces and coordinators to manage the affairs of the association at the Tin Can Island Port.
Speaking at a brief inauguration ceremony at the chapter recently, Chairman of Tin Chapter of ANLCA; Prince Segun Oduntan said it was pertinent for the executives to delegate assignments to trusted persons to manage affairs at various custom tables, terminals, shipping companies and bonded terminals.
Oduntan also said that with the proliferation of freight forwarding associations in the maritime sector, the idea was to separate and distinguish ANLCA members from other associations, whose members flood the port on daily basis.
He said: "I have a responsibility and I must delegate some of the responsibility to people of like minds. It is an opportunity for them to prove themselves and help build the association"
"We have selected some people who are going to help us coordinate affairs at the port. However there is no permanent seat, they could be removed if they fail to deliver".
Oduntan explained that each Coordinator will have a team to work with at the various terminals and off-dock terminals under Tin Can Port, and they are the chief accounting officers of the association at each point.
Those that were appointed were; Alhaji Jamiu Adeyinka as Task Force Chairman, Muhammed Abdulraheem for Ports and Cargo Terminal, Sunny Okoha, Otunba Waheedi Sadiku for Five Star Logistics, Calistus Osamoh, Lekan Gazal, Nojimu Alimi, Bucky Oshimodu for valuation department, Okosimeh John in charge of Customs Relations, Gbolahan Omotosho in charge of Josepdam Terminal and Ayodeji Odejimi in charge of Customs CIU.
Other are; Mr K.K Olayiwola as Chairman Shipping and Terminal Committee, Goke Olayemi, Lawal Kehinde, John Anigbogu in Charge of Clarion Bonded Terminal, Fola Ajibuwa for TICT terminal, Alhaja Amope Oluokun TICT 2, Alhaji Akanni Balogun in charge of the Tin Can Second Gate.
Oduntan explained further that there would be other people working with the coordinators and that these would also have their identity cards as a member of ANLCA at Tin Can.
With these appointments, he told the appointees that the regard they would be given at each terminal as an ANLCA member would be different from how other agents are treated.
He however charged the appointed persons to discipline themselves and coordinate their activities with decorum.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily at the end of the inauguration, Prince Oduntan said: "We have to inaugurate coordinators for ANLCA because we have to make a difference; we need to separate ourselves because there has been proliferation of associations"
"We have to make a difference by distinguishing our members with proper identification, we have to be coordinating, someone has to be responsible for each particular zone, where issues arise, we need to have a point where people would be able to relate with customs, terminal operators and all other agencies seamlessly so that government revenue target can be achieved"
"We are giving them three months’ probation period to work, we will appoint a provost to monitor them because we don't want them to abuse their office, this is why there is no photograph of any Coordinator on the identity cards, they could be removed if they don't represent us well" he said.
