The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agent (ANLCA) has experienced a minor setback in releasing time table for the elections into national positions in the association.
Shipping Position Daily gathered yesterday that at an all-night meeting between the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the association and the National Executive Committee (NECOM), which held Wednesday night, major decisions pertaining to the coming elections could not be taken.
Sources in the association confirmed to our correspondent that some members were pushing that the election should be done by Annual General Meeting (AGM) where all members with valid licensees would be allowed to vote, but others are pushing for election by collegiate which means that only elected/selected officers would be allowed to vote.
When he was contacted by our correspondent, National Publicity Secretary of ANLCA; Kayode Farinto said that all issues would be resolved at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which he said would hold in February, 2018.
"There would be a NEC meeting next month where all matters would be resolved, the meeting of yesterday (Wednesday) was inconclusive, they have agreed to conclude it at the NEC meeting which is the highest decision making of the association".
We have decided that the NEC should ratify the matters that we have decided before it becomes binding, there is no contention" he assured.
Also speaking with our correspondent, Secretary of ANLCA’s electoral committee; Lawrence Bolade said the NEC meeting would be specifically called for the forthcoming elections. According to him, it is only after the NEC meeting that election time table would be released.
Bolade stated that, "the sole agenda of that meeting would be for the election, it is specified in ANLCA constitution, immediately after the meeting, every other thing would be set, the time table for the elections and every other thing will be released ‘’
"The grey areas which are not clear to members and the ASECO would be cleared at the meeting”,Bolade stated.
