The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANCLA ) has officially announced that there is no crisis within its fold and even in ANLCA.
Last Friday’s hurriedly prepared press conference tactically confirmed Shipping Position Daily’s story of last Monday in which it was reported that, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of ANLCA has voted out its chairman; Chief Henry Njoku replacing him with Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha.
This decision to remove Njoku was taken during a meeting of the board, ahead of the inauguration of the new executives at Golden Tulip Hotel in Lagos penultimate weekend. The board agreed that Njoku should preside over the handing over ceremony of the newly- elected executives, which he did. He was cease being the board chairman after that inauguration.
Although Shipping Position Daily had reported that it was agreed that the newly-elected leadership of the Board was expected to take over the administration of the Board on Sunday 15th April, there are indications that the ousted BoT chair is reluctant to vacate the office.
It was also agreed that the headship of the board will henceforth be rotated among member every two yearly.
But speaking at the Secretariat of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) in Apapa Lagos at the weekend, Secretary of the ANCLA board, Prince Taiye Oyeniyi confirmed the election of a three-member headship of the BoT.
According to him, apart from the chairman, Chief Dennis Okafor was elected as Vice Chairman and himself (Oyeniyi) as Secretary. He said that together with Mustapha, they would be piloting affairs of the board for the next two years, with effect from 15th April 2018.
Addressing the journalists, Oyeniyi stated that "ANCLA does not have any crisis, the incumbent President Hon. Tony Uju is at peace with every member; however some of the issues at hand are presently an internal matter that can be resolved within us".
The BoT Secretary also gave a brief history of how Henry Njoku had allegedly frustrated series of attempts to convene a meeting to peacefully elect a new BoT Chairman.
He argued that Njoku was not removed based on tribal sentiment but on expiration of his tenure which was long overdue.
He accused Njoku of clinging to power for too long and unwilling to obey the agreement reached at the board’s April 13th meeting.
