For allegedly obtaining N3million under the pretext of clearing a container at the ports, 47-year-old Jelili Koleosho was yesterday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, who lives at 39, Otun Road, Akute, Ogun, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and fraud.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the offences were committed sometime in October 2015, at about 12.30 p.m, at Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos State.
Ajebe alleged that the accused conspired with one other person still at large to defraud the complainant of his money.
He said that the complainant, one Mr Olalekan Sanni, had sought the help of the accused, who claimed to be a clearing agent, to clear a container containing four cars from the Apapa port in Lagos.
According to the prosecutor, the accused diverted the money for another use and absconded.
Ajebe said that the accused was later apprehended by the police.
The offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
Komolafe said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and adjourned the case until March 27 for mention.
