Few months after the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) introduced online auction of seized cargos, the service has expressed challenges with the e-wallet, it lamented that it has been impossible to upload goods for auction.
The National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Service; Mr Joseph Attah, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs who said this in an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, also complained that the winners have been finding it difficult to service their e-wallets, even though he claimed that the platform is still alive and active.
He however said that the management of the service has engaged the managing directors of the affected banks to ensure that the issue is ratified.
“The platform is still alive and active, but at a point, bidders, that is winners started having challenges paying into their e-wallets, they are having issues servicing their e-wallet”, he disclosed.
He added that the Comptroller General of Custom, Col Hameed Ali(rtd) has invited chief executives of banks to rectify it, “they promised that they were going to sort out the challenges”, he added.
The Customs spokesperson promised that as soon as the issue is ratified, the service will start uploading more goods for auctioning.
“As soon as the challenges are sorted out, we will upload again and continue. Because if we upload, people will win but they cannot pay because they can’t recharge their E-Wallet, that is just the challenge”, stressed.
According to him, “This particular challenge started a couple of months ago and you will notice that last month there was a time we uploaded and even those that bided could not make payment because of the E-Wallet which is at the bank’s end and not the customs”
The service image maker also said that the affected banks have promised to sort out the issue as soon as possible.
“I don’t really know when the issue will be sorted out because it is from the bank and not the customs. I cannot put a figure to how much that has been realized so far” he told our correspondent.
