A 36-year-old Ghanaian, Paul Gyan, on Thursday re-appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos, on a three-count charge of drug trafficking.
The defendant is being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He was first arraigned before Justice Babs Kuewumi in 2018 before the judge was transferred to the Ado-Ekiti Division of the court.
He had pleaded not guilty before Kuewumi, but was not granted bail.
On Thursday, the defendant was re-arraigned before Justice Maureen Onyetenu.
He still pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court will begin substantive trial of the case on May 13.
According to NDLEA counsel, Mrs Juliana Imaobong, the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 25, 2018, and was arrested on the same day, at the Departure Hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, during the outward clearance of Ethiopian Airlines passengers.
The NDLEA said that the defendant concealed 2.02kg of metaphetamine inside 10 tins of Immaculate Tomatoes, in the popular ‘Ghana-must-go’ bag.
The prosecution said that the defendant exported the narcotics to Indonesia, in contravention of the Sections 11(b), 11(d) and 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
