There is hope that the much-awaited elections into the Governing Council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) will hold this year as the National Assembly has allocated N5Millin for the exercise in the 2017 Budget.
A copy of the Transportation Ministry’s 2017 budgetary allocation that was sighted by Shipping Position Daily indicated that, the N5Miilon was part of the N296Miilion that is appropriated for the CRFFN in 2017.
However, there appears to be a duplication as the National Assembly also allocated another N3,109,500 to the Ministry for “assessments visits to ICDS/CFS/TTPS and conduct of elections into the board of CRFFN”.
Shipping Position Daily had reported exclusively recent that the CRFFN has been given the old Transport Ministry secretariat in Lagos as its new corporate head office.
Curiously, while the National Assembly is currently working on an amendment of the CRFFN Act, it is also appropriating funds for its elections.
Under the amendment being proposed by the lawmakers, the Chairman of the CRFFN governing council will be appointed by the President, a clear departure from the current provision where he is elected by members of the governing council.
The Ministry also got a whopping N220,000,000 for “ operational cost of implementing the National Transport Masterplan (NTM) IMO convention, stake holders workshop on transport and World Maritime Day 2017”
