The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has lauded the recently-signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and four major truckers’ association in the maritime industry.
It will be recalled that the MWUN signed an MoU with Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Amalgamation of Truckers Owners Association (ATOA), and NARTO in order to fight what they called, common goal.
But reacting to this, the Dry Cargo Chairman of NARTO, Alhaji Abdullahi Inuwa, who said this in a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, last week, maintained that there is need for all to speak with one voice.
He added that if they are able to speak with one voice, a lot of wrong things will be corrected, adding that the move is indeed a welcomed development.
“The collaboration between the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and truckers is long overdue. I think if we can speak with one voice it will help to eradicate so many things and grow the economy of the country. So many things are going abnormal and we cannot come as truckers to speak with one voice. As far as we can speak with one voice, I think it is a welcome idea and it will help even the end users”.
