President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN); Comrade Adewale Adeyanju has stated that the union has not fixed any date for elections into the executive council of its four branches.
Comrade Adeyanju gave the clarification last week during a visit to the union’s housing unit located at Okokomaiko area of Lagos.
Adeyanju who seized the opportunity of the visit to clarify issues bordering on the coming elections also said that all contestants have been warned not to place posters on the wall during their campaign; rather, they should employ the use of souvenirs to campaign for votes.
"No campaign yet, this was why we held the meeting yesterday, the union does not recognise anything like posters, placing posters in the wall causes disaffection among the supporters"
"We have advised them to embrace the idea of designing souvenirs. Election is by consensus, but if they disagree we would ask them to go to the polls, the delegates now decides who win", he said.
The MWUN has four branches, namely: the NPA Branch, Seamen NIWA and Inland Waterways Branch, Dockworkers Branch and the Shipping and Courier branch.
