Normalcy has returned to the Tin Can port after yesterday’s face-off between an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) attached to Tin Can Island port command and a mobile police officer on a routine patrol at Tin Can.
It will be recalled that earlier yesterday, there was a little misunderstanding between the customs officer who was said to be on his way to work at Tin Can Island first gate over gate pass.
An eye witness told Shipping Position Daily that the issue started when the customs officer who was not wearing his uniform was stopped at the gate by the mobile police officer, he was asked to produce his gate pass or an identity card.
While trying to identify himself, the customs officer was allegedly assaulted by the police officers which led to the fracas.
When our correspondent visited the place few minutes after the fracas, normalcy had already returned and people were seen going about their normal daily activities.
As against what was reported earlier on some online platforms, no gate was pulled down during the face-off.
The customs Public Relations Officer of Tin Can, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, a Deputy Superintendent of Customs, said nothing serious happened.
He added that the issue has been amicably settled.
Meanwhile a Hilux filled with Army personnel was seen at the spot.
