The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media; Mr. Femi Adesina has commended the Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service for the seizure of 440 pump action riffles imported from Turkey on Tuesday.
Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Uche Ejesieme disclosed this at a two-day training programme organised by the Tin Can customs for maritime journalists under Federated Media Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Ejesieme said that Mr. Adesina had placed a call late Tuesday night to commend the service for the remarkable seizure.
Ejesieme also said that the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) had also called to commend the Area Controller of Tin Can Customs, Mr. Bashir Yussuf and the officers for making the seizure without "flamboyance".
"The CGC also called the area controller to commend him and the entire officers of the command for making that seizure 'without flamboyance"
"The CG rarely calls anyone to commend, he believes that you are a proper officer that have been trained and so you are expected to know your job" he said.
Displaying the rifles on Tuesday, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tin-Can Island Port, Bashar Yusuf had posited that the interception of the 20foot container was based on intelligence and renewed vigour for effective Service delivery by the Command.
Speaking with Journalists at the Enforcement section of the Unit, Bashar highlighted that the command had earlier segregated the 1 x 20ft container No. PONU 210024/1 to the Enforcement Unit for physical examination, while protective shepherding the cargo, without giving much away.
Corroborating the view, the Zonal Co-ordinator Zone ‘A’, ACG Monday ABUE, who represented the Comptroller-General also anchored the stupendous seizure to sheer intelligence, and commended the Controller, describing Bashar as a quintessential officer who has indeed, been contributing immensely to the success story of the Service.
