The President of the Chartered Institute of transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) Dr. Bashir Yusuf Jamoh, has said the institute will build reputation as a world class institute of Transport Administration by providing and advancing top-notch study, training, certification and practice of transport management and administration in Nigeria and other related matter adding that it will also ensure the accomplishment of intermodal transport in Nigeria to enhance the effectiveness of the economy.
Jamoh made this known during the first national press conference of the newly chartered institute held in Lagos yesterday
According to him, "the Passage into law of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration bill would revolutionalise the transport sector and increase the industry's contributions to the economy.
"Most of the members of the Institute are professionals while the bill as to do with research . As dictated by the law, we will liaise with tertiary institutions because we have the solution from the different research works we have done.
"To achieve best practice, we will adopt research method of short, medium and long term method to enable us provide solution to Any problems emanating from the transport sector.
"We will also carry out a survey plan on all the various modes under transportation , namely, land, air, and sea and we will relate with various heads of the ministry as the law provide.
"It is CIOTA that is the only registered Institution by the Act of parliament as a professional body, that is why we will ensure we do the necessary things to enable the Federal Government succeed. "
He commended the efforts of the Federal Government on issues of intermodal transport especially on rail systems before now, adding that it has made it possible to one can easily transport containers through the rail from Apapa port to the northern part of the country.
Jamoh said that presently inland container depot had been extended to eastern part of the country adding that containers should not be transport through the road to avoid constant gridlock on the highways.
He explained that since four-year ago that there had been a lot revolutions in terms of trail system adding that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that all port should be linked with rails.
Jamoh said that he had been able to achieve the attainment of the CIOTA to charter status which had given the institute a voice in the scheme of things in Nigeria transport sector.
He said that Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria Act was achievable with the support of the President Muhammad Buhari as well as the 8th National Assembly for passing the bill and making it an Act for CIOTA.
Jamoh who is also the Executive Director Finance of the Nigerian Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), said that institute was first established in Nigeria in 1986 and within six month of his assumption into office in February the institution was fully registered into law.
"The six two political zones will be duly covered to lead specific transportation related initiatives from water in the South South to rail and inland in the north west roads in the east; north central will focus on pipelines/cable transport and aviation in the Lagos hub of the South West.
"CIOTA will establish valuable partnership and strategic alliances with all target stakeholders. From the federal ministry of Transportation to other related MDAs in aviation, roads, rails, maritime, pipeline; transport Labour end the National Union of Road Taranport Workers (NURTW).
"The institute will also support by providing and advancing topnoch study, training, certification and practice of transport management and administration in Nigeria and other related matters". he said
