The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has explained why the service is spending a total of N 1,570,769,000 for recruitment process.
In a press statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the command, Deputy Comptroller Joseph Attah yesterday, explained that the humongous amount is for the feeding of the 3,200 candidates for the period of six months and other logistics during the course of recruitment.
According to him, "the N1,570, 769,000 covers recruitment process which is N300,000.000, feeding 0f 3,200 put at N2000 each, daily for 6 months amounting to N1, 152,000000.
"Then Logistics, training kits and teaching allowances all carefully calculated to arrive at the N1,570,769,000.00.
It is therefore wrong to attribute the sum to only the recruitment excluding the bigger picture of 6 months training period." he said.
Meanwhile the vice chairman, Senate Committee on Customs, Francis Fadahunsi, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, over alleged fraud and incompetence in the service.
Speaking in an interview with journalists on Sunday, Mr Fadahunsi, the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, alleged that Mr Ali’s sheer incompetence and poor border control had resulted in the proliferation of small arms now threatening the nation’s existence.
According to him, Customs boss allowed traders to smuggle contraband goods and items into the country, despite a ban by the Federal Government.
Mr Fadahunsi further said: “I told the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (rtd.), that his border management is poor.
“You don’t need to carry guns and start running after those people who have settled your boys. It is wrong, they paid bribes to the boys at the border and they are still running after them now.
